LIBRARY NEWS

During COVID-19, we all had changes affected our lives. For most people, this meant spending more time at home and less time outdoors. This gave us an opportunity to do things we had been putting off.

I found more time to read during this time. Some of the books I read were; Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood , The Art of Growing Up by John Marsden, Men Without Women by Haruki Murakami, Ransom by David Malouf and Station Eleven by Emily ST. John Mandel.

The following books can be borrowed from the library: Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, Ransom and Station Eleven can be found on our Library shelves for students to borrow.

I found Station Eleven very interesting as it was a story about a deadly flu like virus that touches down in North America and the world will never be the same again. A bit like COVID-19 I guess.

Quotes from Station Eleven:

“A story had broken the day before about an alarming new flu in the Republic of Georgia, conflicting reports about mortality rates and death tolls.” (pg.17)

“They all just boarded the same flight out of Moscow. Then this afternoon, a new patient comes in. Same symptoms, but this one wasn’t on the flight. This one just an employee at the airport… His only contact with the other patients was speaking with one of them about where to board the hotel shuttle.” (p.18)

I just could not put this book down. At the back of the book, the question is asked: “If civilization was lost, what would you preserve? And how far would you go to protect it?”
